Mission & HistoryOrganisation’s Vision:
The vision of SWV is to have civil society without violence, society where the country will be governed by people adherent to true democracy values, people who respect and promote gender equality, society where there will be no space for violence against women.
The mission of the organization is to share our Human rights skills and knowledge with others, to educate and inspire young women and girls to be active in the political, social, cultural life of the republic, to empower women and girls to become leaders, woman human rights defenders.
The organization was founded in 2001. Since its establishment the organization is implementing projects focused on women’s empowerment, young girls’ public awareness and participation raise, promotion of social activism and leadership skills as well as contribution to the formation of women human rights defenders’ institutional system.
SWV NGO has many members and volunteers and operates in Yerevan and 5 other regions of the republic; Shirak, Lori, Gexarquniq, Syuniq and Tavush. Organization has regional staff respectively in Artik, Vanadzor, Martuni, Kapan and Ijevan cities.
SWV Structure has emerged from a collective. We strive to maintain a nonhierarchical ethos and all members are invited to involve themselves in organizational issues and decision-making.
Currently SWV has 2 trustees who are also the founders of SWV. They are ultimately and legally responsible for the organization, provide strategic direction and governance as well as fundraising activity and financial responsibility of the NGO.
Programs Director coordinates SWV activities on a day to day basis and represents SWV externally. She is a full member of the SWV Board which comprises 2 trustees and 1 Programs Director.
Accountant is responsible for accounting, financial reporting to the tax inspection and financial documentation for audit.
Within more than 10 years, we have created Society Without Violence Network which includes more than 60 members from Yerevan and 5 regions we are working in. Each year, we organize meetings with the network members in order to talk and discuss our joint activities suggested by the network members.
The network is open for all those who are:
- for gender equality,
- women’s rights activists,
- dynamic and sociable,
- and want to change something in our society.
